Chicago Center for Orthopedics Sports Medicine and the Chicago Riot Rugby Football Club

Chicago Riot Rugby

Since 2012, orthopedic and sports medicine experts from Vanguard Chicago Center for Orthopedics (CCO) have provided medical care to the Chicago Riot Rugby Football Club, making the CCO the exclusive healthcare provider for the club’s athletes. The partnership is part of the CCO’s overall commitment to improve the health of the community by caring for both professional players and amateur athletes.

The Chicago Riot Rugby Football Club
Chicago Riot Rugby is a social athletic club founded in 2006 by a group of former University of Illinois at Chicago rugby players. The club was formed to embrace the social aspects of the sport, along with offering a competitive atmosphere to play rugby as a top contender. Chicago Riot Rugby was formally accepted into the Chicago Area Rugby Football Union (CARFU) to compete in the Division III league in the Fall 2008 season. In their first three seasons competing in CARFU, the Riot has qualified for the playoffs twice, including each of the past two seasons. During the 2011 season, the Riot finished with a combined record of 5-2-1, advancing to the second round of the Midwest Playoffs.

At Weiss, we strive to build on our commitment to educate our surrounding communities about healthy lifestyles and fitness. The CCO's sports medicine specialists provide patient-centric care to the athletes of Chicago Riot Rugby. Player and mascot appearances at Weiss Memorial Hospital throughout the season also will help to promote the importance of physical activity and its role in Health for Life among hospital employees and patients. Check the Chicago Riot RFC website for more information and game schedules.
